Déploiement de la Schutztruppe Troupe Coloniale Allemande, Mai 1914
An officier allemand, sergent, et Askaris de la Schutztruppe (force de protection) de l’Afrique orientale allemande, deployed in line avec right flank refused. Ces 15 mm figurines de chez Peter Laing représentent un peloton d’infanterie in colonial wargames using The Sword and the Flame rules. L’Allemagne became a colonial power en 1884 - much later than other European nations - when Togo, the Cameroons et South West Africa were taken. In that same year, the Neuguinea-Kompanie in Berlin purchased Deutsch-Neuguinea, also known as Kaiser Wilhelms-Land. In East Africa, troupes allemandes secured the territory of the Sultan of Zanzibar in Tanganyika. They defeated the Arab Rebellion there en 1888-89 et eventually broke the resistance of the Wahehe tribe (1891-98). En 1896, Allemagne seized the provinces of Kiautschou et Tsingtau in China which led to the country’s involvement in the Révolte des Boxers (1900-01). Deutsch-Samoa became a Protectorate en 1899, quand les États-Unis et l’Allemagne divided the islands between them, following a period of political unrest among the native population. La Schutztruppe allemande was established under the direct supervision of the Imperial Colonial Office in Berlin. Not all of the colonies had Schutztruppe units in place, some only required local police forces, officered by Allemands, whereas the Protectorate of Kiautschou received a large naval et marine infantry detachment.
