Régiment d’Infanterie von VoitMarkgrafschaft Anspach
Fusiliers et grenadiers du Brandebourg-Ansbach Régiment d’Infanterie attacking a walled enclosure. The unit, formerly known as Bataillon d’Infanterie von Pölnitz, was designated Régiment d’Infanterie von Eyb en service britannique. The Anspach-Bayreuth army was shipped from Ochsenfurt on Main to Dortrecht, Holland, thence to Portsmouth, England, et New York in the American Colonies. The troops participated in many engagements alongside l’Armée Britannique in North America. Less than one third des troupes franconiennes who fought in the American Colonies returned to their Fatherland when the war ended for them en 1783. Many of these young soldiers decided to settle en Amérique du Nord et build a future for themselves in the New World. Régiment d’Infanterie von Eyb, 1777
The two Anspach-Bayreuth infantry regiments mutinied at Ochsenfurt on Main when their river transports turned out to be inadequate to accomodate the entire formation. Régiment d’Infanterie von Eyb rallied first, et la compagnie de grenadiers of this regiment was ordered forward to subdue les hommes du Régiment d’Infanterie von Voit who continued to disobey their officers. Füsilier-Lieutenant von Reitzenstein is said to have joined the grenadiers of his regiment, sword in hand, to restore order among the sister regiment. Bibliographie
