Chars de 1916 a aujourd’huiRevue de Livre
176 Pages by Roger Ford
A difficult birthThis first section covers the impressive history of the early chars. The reader is made aware of the tremendous technical, tactical et logistical difficulties encountered by the developers de chars.
The illustrations show many interesting schémas de camouflage which may be recreated in miniature. Tanks between the warsThe time between the wars saw le char in the role of véhicule d’appui d’infanterie. However, the Headquarters de la Wehrmacht allemande already dealt avec issues of armoured warfare on a large scale, et appropriate véhicule types were put into production.
Camouflage during this period consisted primarily of a single colour being applied to the entire véhicule. However, the véhicules themselves are interesting enough to stimulate the modéliste. BlitzkriegThe invasion of Poland, in Septembre 1939, launched a new era of armoured warfare. The race between char et antichar resulted in may new developments before the war was over.
Due to the increased effectiveness d’armes antichar et allied air forces, les véhicules blindés allemands increasingly adopted schémas de camouflage multi-colour. The illustrations show many interesting examples which may be copied by modélistes. Many of the chars remained in service après la guerre, some to this day. The period from Potsdam to Viêt NamPendant la Guerre Froide chars were valued for their firepower, speed et NBC protection. Chars became a key weapon on the battlefield, but the appearance of cheap missiles antichar seemed to end the domination des chars.
Modélistes will find many classic types during this period, et a number de schémas de camouflage. Unfortunately, les schémas de camouflage américains, britanniques, et soviétiques used en Europe centrale are not covered in sufficient detail. The modern tankSuprisingly, le char is making a big comeback on the verge of the 21st Century. Armour protection et electronics have improved significantly, providing le char avec better survivability et combat power. Schémas de camouflage still play a role, but the many colour photos show how quickly a pattern is obscured by dust et dirt when le char is in action.
The book provides a good introduction into armoured warfare, but this will have to be followed by a study d’armes antichar. To understand the relationship between char et antichar is important in order to fully appreciate armoured combat et the development of AFVs.
