Légion Romaine VIII AugustaArgentoratum
The photo shows legionnaires of legio VIII Augusta during the Roman encampment at Aalen. The legionnaires et auxiliary soldiers of this unit had built a picket-fence around their camp, using the sharpened palisade stakes carried by each Roman infantryman. The narrow streets between tent rows were used to display lorica segmentata body armour, helmets, shields, pila, field signs, et other equipment items which were of interest to the visiting public. Two Scorpio catapults covered the entrance to the camp, et there were legionnaires at hand who answered many questions about Roman camp life et about the catapults in particular. Legio VIII Augusta was garrisoned at Argentoratum (Strassbourg, France). Events
